Coming to the US

In 2023, Andy Javier Perozo-Palencia left Venezuela with friends, traveling through the Darien Jungle, before crossing irregularly through “the river” to Texas.  There they requested protection as asylum seekers.  Andy had a tattoo of the name of his parents on his forearm. In Venezuela, Andy worked as a juice seller and occasional construction worker.  His mother said he didn’t do well in the US. Andy shared a home in Texas with three friends from Venezuela. 

Detained and Expelled

On March 13, ICE officers showed up at their home, arrested them, and took them to a Texas detention center.  Andy, and the other three men, do not appear in federal, state or local criminal court records.  According to the family of one of the men, Mervin Yamarte, they were asked to sign deportation papers which they agreed to. However, Yamarte was soon seen on the CECOT video released by El Salvadoran President Bukele.  The families of all four men insist they are not members of Tren de Aragua.
