Coming to the US
Luis Edison Chacon Gomez worked on his father’s livestock farm in Venezuela before migrating. His son who is now four suffered from a medical condition that left him unable to walk or speak and Luis wanted to do more to provide support for him. He first went to Chile where he worked for months as a delivery person until he suffered an accident. He returned to Venezuela for 2-3 months before journeying to the US. Luis entered the US on August 13, 2023.

Detainment and Disappearance
Luis is a father of three, originally from Venezuela, who was allegedly arrested by Milwaukee police on March 8 while delivering food through an app while accompanied by his 6 year old son. According to his family, his truck headlights were apparently not working leading to his detention. He was transferred to a detention center in Broadview, IL. He was later transferred to a detention center in Brownsville, TX. He was able to communicate with his wife until Friday, April 11. Since then they have not heard from him. Three days later his mother saw him in a video circulating online of men in CECOT.
His wife, Mariannys Galindez says he is not a member of Tren de Aragua. Although he has tattoos, she notes they are the names of his parents and her. His family states that an officer believed his leg wound from the accident in Chile was a gunshot wound linking him to gang activity. Before he was detained, his family said he had filled out paperwork to self deport.
Luis’ family
Luis’ wife and three children (6, 4, and 2) are still in the US. According to Luis’ mother, his wife wants to request self-deportation but is afraid to do so and be separated from her children.
